Festive Decor Tips for Your Home

Posted on Dec 1, 2022 in Blog

Decorating your home for the Christmas season can be fun, and when the job is done, your efforts will help spread joyful cheer all throughout the holiday season.

No Need to Break the Bank

Homeowners don’t need to break the bank to accessorize their living space with colourful, festive decorations. A little bit of variety, along with a few homemade touches, can go a long way towards giving the home that special holiday feel so many people come to cherish every year at this time.

Start at Your Front Door

That festive look can begin right at the front doorstep. Christmas lanterns illuminated at the door will provide visitors with a warm, welcoming glow. And of course the wreath on the front door is a Christmas tradition that can’t be overlooked. A Christmas-themed welcome mat provides a nice touch. If an evening party or gathering is planned, try using lighted luminaries along the front walkway as an attractive welcome for your guests.

Garland Anyone?

When considering how to decorate the inside of the house, remember this word: garland. Garland provides a traditional look to areas, is very easy to work with, and is very versatile. Strung up by itself, or adorned with ribbon or lights, it can accentuate many different areas in any room. Hang it around doorways; on handrails going up stairways; strung across the mantel over the fireplace; hung along pendant lights in the kitchen or dining room; really, just about anywhere! Creativity and imagination can come into play with garland, which makes a classic and attractive touch all throughout the house.

Don’t Be Afraid of Colour

Have some fun with colour when decorating. Use a wide variety throughout the house. Get multicoloured lights for the Christmas tree. Use bright, colourful ornaments on the tree as well. Think of all those panoramic pictures you’ve seen of a happy, festive, beautiful Christmas scene. They are full of bright, vibrant colours. Try to capture that look and feel in your own home. You can also work with a theme for your decor or using just one or two complimentary colours, like blue and silver. Tons of different shades of blue with hints of silver accenting it all! A home full of colour just seems to exude a fun and joyful aura to your surroundings.

Scents for All Senses

This year, spread out a little Christmas village around your home. A few little shops here, a few homes and an outdoor skating rink there, with perhaps Santa’s Workshop acting as a centrepiece. It’s a nice little way for people to use their imaginations with seeing it in different areas, and may even be a fun topic of conversation between the village builder and guests who see it.

To add a little more colour, a little more light, and give rooms a nice aroma, use scented candles. Coming in different sizes, colours, and fragrances, they can make nice adornments in any room. Just a little ribbon wrapped around the candle, or placed with a small bow, they look and smell very nice. They can help light up little nooks or corner spots that otherwise get very little light. Just make sure you aren’t burning them all at once, and your scents work together. You could also try going with just one scent, but you won’t have the variety of colours you might want.

Enjoy the season!
