Where has all the time gone? It’s out with 2022, and in with 2023. You can’t have a fresh start when you’re still dealing with last year’s clutter, so take a moment to think about getting your home organized. A little bit of thought and dedication can get the new year off to the right start!
Put Those Clothes Away
Chances are that some of your clothes are beginning to wear out, even if you aren’t a clothes horse. As the season progresses, your closet is bound to get cluttered, so grab a garbage bag and toss everything you don’t wear. Donate this bag, and you’ll breathe a sigh of relief when you see how much cleaner and fresher your bedroom feels. Additionally, this helps those who are less fortunate.
Hang It Up — Everywhere
‘Hang it up’ is often heard in the bedroom and the bathroom, but it also works in the kitchen. Your kitchen is one of the busiest areas in your home, but it’s also a place where clutter can go unnoticed for a long time. Check the floor for any items, or consider any boxes you have lying around. Consider ways to tuck those items away and out of sight, and consider ways to get them up on the wall. For example, if you have a ton of plastic bags, consider opting for a cylindrical cloth dispenser bag instead, which will keep things tidy and visually neat.
It Has a Place or Out It Goes
This is especially important when you are dealing with work spaces like a craft room, home office, or garage. Unless something has a permanent home, it will constantly get in your way. That means that everything you use, whether it’s every day or just once a month, needs a place to live. It might have a place on a shelf or a box, but if it has no permanent home, it needs to go. With a little creativity, you’ll be amazed at how many spaces you can create.
Over-the-Toilet Caddies
If your home doesn’t have much space in the bathroom, you can organize things a little more effectively by looking for a shelf that can be mounted over the toilet’s tank. These shelves are usually fairly light, and they are an excellent choice when storage space in your bathroom is limited. You can store a basket of hand towels there, some toilet paper or extra toiletries for guests.
Create or Organize Your Mudroom
A mudroom is any space at the entrance of your home where you and your guests can take off your shoes and your outdoor clothing. This gives you a place to put your outerwear, and it also prevents you from shedding water and grime as you make your way through your home. A mudroom can take advantage of a closet, or it can be as simple as shoe rack by the entrance and a series of coat hooks across the wall.
Commit to Tidying
It’s best to clean in small bits every day instead of putting off chores for a week or more. You’ll find that your home stays neater and easier to clean as time goes on if you do a little bit of cleaning every day. Organizing and cleaning your home even for ten minutes a day can make a huge difference.
